It is really important that the chemistry between the client and the coach is made early in the intervention. To help in this an initial discussion should occur covering such topics as
- Introductions and backgrounds
- What client understands about coaching
- Clarification of role of coach through coaches eyes
- In what way the client might benefit from coaching
- What specific issues or problems the client wishes to address
- What the feeling is about a coaching relationship
- Logistics and expectations of coaching sessions
In addition to this discussion, it is important to discuss the context for the coaching.
For example,
where the boundaries are in confidentiality when involving a corporate body (corporate, client, coach boundaries).
On satisfactory conclusion of the initial contact, an agreement is entered into depending on the parties involved
a) Between client and coach or
b) Between client, corporate and coach.
